We remove moss and algae from roofs. Service area includes Maryland, Washington DC, and Virginia.

Every year, many asphalt roofs are replaced due to unsightly stains and rapid deterioration. Asphalt roofs in almost 80% of the United States are at risk. Is your roof next?

What is the cause of this staining and deterioration?

The most common cause is a blue-green algae called Gloeocapsa magma. This robust algae has migrated to almost 80% of the country. Unfortunately some of the fillers in today's asphalt shingles are its favorite food. As the algae grows and decomposes, it holds moisture, which further speeds up it growth. The algae causes black stains to form on the roof and deteriorates the shingles upon which it lies.

Is there a solution?

Yes, we can come to your home and clean this destructive algae off your roof and apply a roof protectant to help curb regrowth! Just look at the difference it can make!

Is it safe for my roof?

DEFY Roof Cleaner is a fast, effective product for roof shingle cleaning and is the safest way to clean and restore the appearance of your roof. It is the first effective roofing cleaning product that does not rely on harsh chemicals like chlorine bleach or sodium hydroxide.

Roof cleaning is important for the longevity of your roof. Without cleaning, organic matter and algae can accumulate and create an environment where harmful bacteria and algae can breed. This will prematurely deteriorate your roofing, causing you unnecessary expense. For this reason, we suggest roof washing when signs of algae appear.

Harmful roof algae (Gleocapsa Magma) initially affected the West Coast, but as weather patterns change it’s been making its way across the States. Over the past several years we’ve been receiving more calls about roof cleaning in Northern VA and roof cleaning in Maryland.

Gloeocapsa Magma is most noticeable by dark staining on your shingles. It grows exponentially, so what may start as a small patch can spread dramatically. If you notice this staining, or any large deposits of leaves or organic matter, it’s likely time for a roof cleaning.

We take the utmost care to remove the organic matter and algae that harms your roof without causing undue damage ourselves. Standard methods of roof cleaning are much too harsh for shingles and other roofing styles. Roofing is built to withstand the elements. While nature can throw some nasty things at your roof, nothing can compare to high pressure water sprays or caustic chemicals. Roofing wasn’t meant to handle such abuse.

We use a unique non-caustic solution that attacks roof damaging algae without damaging your roof or surrounding vegetation. After saturating the roof with this cleaner, we rinse it clear with a low pressure power broom, and apply a sealant to prevent regrowth.
